For the 34th incarnation of the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalism, the organisation has invited members of the public to vote, alongside this year’s dedicated judging panel.
Miriam Krekel, Head of the journalism school at the Axel Springer Academy of Journalism & Technology, says: “Good journalism in the sense of describing what really is, is more important than ever today, and this is a huge opportunity for young people.”
“In eventful times, they can report on the ground, documenting how history is being made every day. And they can use technologies which hold future potential for journalism we cannot even begin to imagine. I’m excited that with the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalism, we can honor bold, innovative, and impressive contributions that address both of these themes and contribute to the future.”
Awards will be presented in the categories of:
- Politics and Business
- Report
- Future
- Entertainment
Additionally, as in previous years, the ‘Best Team Performance’ award category recognizes outstanding contributions that are the result of teamwork, including innovative journalistic projects and products.
Unique Journalistic Experiences
Award winners will have the opportunity to visit Axel Springer’s editorial offices, gaining unique insights, meeting leading figures in the media industry, and acquiring hands-on experience. The George Weidenfeld Prize for Courageous Reporting will once again be awarded as a special honour during the ceremony next year, endowed with €10,000.
Eligible nominations include journalistic contributions in German language from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, created by trainees, editors, or freelancers who were no older than 33 at the time of publication. For team projects, this age limit applies to all primary contributors. Further information can be found here.
