As reported by numerous global outlets including The Guardian, Drake and 21 Savage are being sued by Conde Nast for using the vogue brand to promote their new album without permission. The suit, filed in Manhatten federal court, is believed to be worth at least $4m.
The new Her Loss album, which represents a collaboration between the two artists, has so far received mixed reviews. “Things never quite coalesce,” writes Pitchfork Contributor Paul A. Thompson.
Well allegedly neither of the two coalesced with Conde Nast in the formation of the album’s promotional launch either, which included representations that they would soon be appearing on the cover of Vogue, and even went so far as to thank the publication’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, “for the love and support on this historic moment”
The official court filing made by Conde, some of which is cited in this NBC report here, does not mess about: “All of this is false. And none of it has been authorized by Condé Nast. In furtherance of their deceptive campaign, Defendants have gone so far as to create a counterfeit issue of Vogue magazine…”
Could Drake inadvertently end up getting MORE than $4m worth of publicity by approaching his pre and post album launch campaigns in this way!? For an answer to that… we’d have to consult God’s Plan!
