Disney+ to stream Elton John Live, Farewell from Dodger Stadium

Disney+ is set to liversteam Elton John’s final North America performance, as he is joined on-stage by the likes of Dua Lipa, Kiki Dee and Brandi Carlile. The event will take place next Monday 21st November, and include interviews with both David Furnish and Sir Elton himself, alongside the musical extravaganza.

John’s first appearance at Dodger Stadium in 1975 is widely regarded as the moment when the Pinner performer truly arrived on the global scene. Next week’s concert will itself represent a significant moment in the mainstreaming of livestreaming, as in addition to the 50,000 fans attending the gig live, the performance is beamed to millions more around the world.

We reported yesterday on Netflix’s impending first footsteps into the world of livestreaming, with a new comedy offering headlined by Chris Rock. Disney+ has already taken tentative steps in this area, but the Farewell from Dodger Stadium is set to take that platform to the widest of audiences.

‘To amplify the excitement,’ Disney says it in its press statement about the event, an hourlong special, ‘iHeartRadio Presents Elton John’s Thank you to America: The Final Song,’ will broadcast across 320+ US stations. The concert will also be the culmination of his Disney Original Documentary, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances and The Years that Made His Legend.
