Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent global lockdowns, FIPP Congress was this year forced to switch to an online format. Held at the historic Kenton Theatre in Henley-on-Thames, and featuring 80+ speakers from leading international brands, online sessions were beamed around the world live, as well as being made available on-demand.
Congress is the flagship event for the global magazine media industry, and this was the first time in the history of the conference that it had ever taken place purely online. inPress was on-hand to carry out the video editing, and ensure that sessions were uploaded for viewing by the on-demand audience in a timely fashion.
There were also opportunities to network, with chat facilities and special online deal rooms made available, as the congress sought to recapture some of the connectivity that it has previously enjoyed in the physical world. The FIPP and UPM Rising Star in Media Awards went ahead as planned, albeit digitally, and for the first time in the six year history of the awards programme, the judging panel announced joint winners.
It was a hugely successful event and a joy to be involved in, and it was also important that FIPP, the network for global media, was itself able to demonstrate that while the current global situation is not necessarily ideal, key industry events can still be held online and hold the power to cpativate!
